Hello, I’m Sara
Throughout my career, I've worked to bring people together, build consensus, and turn ideas into meaningful action.
As an instructor in the School of Legal Studies at Capilano University, I've had the privilege of working with students, faculty, industry partners, and administrators to build programs, cultivate opportunities, and prepare students for meaningful careers. I've also served as Chair of the School of Legal Studies, where thoughtful decision-making, collaboration, and responsible leadership guided my work.
I'm passionate about access to justice and was honoured to be appointed by the Attorney General of British Columbia to the Regulated Paralegal Working Group, helping develop recommendations for the future of legal services in our province.
Whether I'm leading a team, managing a budget, developing new programs, or working through a difficult issue, my approach is always the same: listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and work collaboratively to find practical solutions.
The Values That Guide Me
I believe leadership begins with listening. The best ideas don't belong to one person; they come from neighbours sharing different perspectives, asking thoughtful questions, and working together to place-make and solve problems. That's the approach I've taken throughout my career, and it's the same approach I hope to bring to Council.
Why I'm Running
Gibsons is a remarkable community. It's a place where neighbours know one another, people step up to help, and families put down roots. My family has experienced that kindness and sense of belonging firsthand, and it has shaped the way I think about this town.
That's why I’m running for Gibsons Council.
I believe good leadership begins with listening. The best decisions come from considering different perspectives, asking thoughtful questions, and making informed choices that balance today's priorities with tomorrow's opportunities.
As our community continues to grow and change, we'll face important decisions about housing, infrastructure, safety, transportation, environmental stewardship, recreation, and long-term financial sustainability. Those decisions must be guided by careful planning, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and engagement.
I care deeply about protecting what makes Gibsons special while helping prepare for the future. My hope is to contribute to a community where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, seniors can age with dignity, and young people can see a future for themselves here.
It would be an honour to serve the town that has given my family so much.
My Story
In May 2017, my husband, Mike and I came to Gibsons for what we thought would be a simple day trip. We had no idea it would change our lives.
It was a beautiful spring day, and by the time we were on the ferry back to Horseshoe Bay, remarkably running on time, we had completely fallen in love with Gibsons. Before the ferry reached the terminal, we'd already put in an offer on the home where we still live today.
That spontaneous decision changed our lives. We came for a day trip and found the community where we chose to build our future.
Life in Gibsons
Today, Gibsons is more than where we live - it's home. Mike and I are raising our two children, Theo and Laya, in the community that captured our hearts that day. Like many parents, our lives revolve around school, sports, activities, and making the most of everything the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Our home wouldn't be complete without our two very loved dogs, Miranda and Peanut Butter ZhuZhu Sticks Stewart, who are convinced they run the household.
Over the years, we've experienced the same joys and everyday challenges that many local Gibsons residents know well: finding childcare, supporting aging parents, coordinating busy schedules, and planning around the ferry. We've also celebrated countless moments that make living here so special: cheering from the sidelines, exploring our neighbourhood, and building lasting friendships with the people who make Gibsons such an extraordinary place.
We feel incredibly fortunate to call Gibsons home. This community has given our family so much, and that's why I'm committed to giving back - to help ensure it remains a place where people of every generation can thrive.
Respecting the Land We Call Home
My family and I are grateful to live in Gibsons. We acknowledge that Gibsons is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). We recognize the enduring connection the Skwxwú7mesh people have with these lands and waters and the responsibility we all share to care for them. As I seek the privilege of serving on Council, I am committed to listening, learning, and working respectfully with all members of our community as we look ahead, together.
